keeping cool

We have had some unusually hot weather for May in Michigan this week. I promise I'm not complaining because it is nothing compared to Houston and I have been waiting ALL winter for this. Unfortunately we turned our A/C on for the first time Sunday and it's not working. We should be back in business today, Praise the Lord because I don't think this pregnant momma can handle one more day of this.

Because it's been so hot inside and out we have opted to spend most of the days outside in the water. I even got in the baby pool on Monday because I was sweltering, Luke thought it was hilarious. :) We've been eating lots of popsicles and went to Meijer Gardens late yesterday to play with the boats and in the mini splash pad. Definitely kick starting our summer. Here's to working A/C for the rest of the summer.

this week we've been...

and just having fun!

Summer is definitely coming and it makes my heart happy. Next week we are supposed to have temperatures in the high 80's! Oh how my attitude about warm weather has changed since moving here. I feel like my bones still need warming after the winter.

Girls weekend :)

For every boy's weekend there has to be a girl's weekend, right? I had such a fun trip home for Lisa's wedding shower. It was a really quick trip but I was so glad I was able to be there and especially since I got to see lots of relatives who came in for the shower too. The shower was really special and Lisa got lots of great things to fill her kitchen.

That evening the whole extended family went to none other than Lupe Tortilla, my fav. :) Afterwards I was even able to run over to one my best friends and bridesmaid's engagement party for a little bit. It was a VERY quick trip with a lot squeezed in but was so fun to see everyone.

P.S. Sorry the spacing is weird. I am still having issues with this in case you can't tell. :)

Boys weekend

This past weekend I headed home to Houston for my sister, Lisa's, wedding shower while Michael and Luke stayed up here and had a "boys weekend." They managed very well without Mom around and he even made some progress in the potty training arena. Michael even got brave and took Luke camping on Saturday. From the looks of it they had a great time.

A friend of Michael's from work has relatives who let them go out to their ranch which he said was just beautiful! Michael wasn't interested in taking Luke back to a camp site just yet since we remember what happened last time. :) He thought it would be better to not wake up the entire campsite in the case of a repeat.

Luke's best buddies Cash and Parker and their daddy came out in the afternoon too. I know Luke was thrilled to see his friends and Michael was glad for company and some conversation that didn't involve the question "do you have to go peepee?"

Potty training is a lot of work!!

Update: After I posted this today the little man proceeded to poop in his underwear twice! Should have known this would jinx it.

We are almost a week into potty training and with no accidents yesterday I think it's safe to say we're on the home stretch! Yay Luke! And yay for mommy not having to change his diaper anymore since there will be another tiny little bottom to change soon! Luke has spent most of the past week either in just undies or naked outside and a ton of time sitting on the pot! I've been surprised at how well he's done but was almost in tears this weekend wondering if it was worth the fuss right now. We persevered though and I'm glad we did. He looks so grown up with his undies on and oh so cute! :)

Visiting DeeDee and Billy in Chi-Town

Last week Luke and I headed over to Chicago to meet DeeDee and Billy for a quick visit while my Dad and "Uncle" Ross attended a conference for work. It was such a treat to get a couple of days with them in the middle of the week. Mom, Luke, and I spent Tuesday tooling around Michigan Avenue which was so much fun. The highlight for Luke was the Disney Store as you can see by the pictures. He sprinted, as fast as a two year old can sprint, all the way through the store to the back where they had the Mickey displays. It was precious! Both evenings we went to fun restaurants for dinner and got to just hang out with DeeDee, Billy, and my cousin, "Uncle" Ross. Thanks for such a fun treat, Mom and Dad. Wish we could drive to meet you more often. :)

Sorry about the spacing, can't figure out what's going on with it.

Happy Mother's Day

Dear Mom,

Can you believe I can already use a computer? Dad taught me yesterday and I'm already a wiz, especially on the Mac! For my first post, on this beautiful Mother's Day, I want to tell you the 10 reasons you're the best mom in the world.

1. You put up with me for 9 months in your belly, making you sick and tired, and you never complained a bit.
2. When I was born you loved and cared for me even though all I did was poop, pee, and eat.
3. You spend each day sacrificing your time so that I can learn and grow. Someday I am going to be a big boy that loves Jesus just like you and Dad.
4. You do tons of work around the house and always have a smile on your face. I promise that soon I will be big enough to help you with a few things.
5. You play trains with me, read me books, we go on walks together, and you push me on the swing for hours.
6. You tolerate my best pal, Kirby dog.
7. Even though I have wet my undies multiple times this week, you haven't given up on potty training.
8. I'm not sure quite how the process works yet, but ya'll keep telling me that you're growing my baby sister in your belly. I can't wait to meet her!
9. Dad says you're the hottest mom ever and that all my friends will be jealous. I think you're super cool.
10. Most of all you're the best mom in the world because you love me so much and make me feel so special.

I love you Mom! Thanks for all you do for me and our family!

Love,

Luke

MED brothers reunite

We had so much fun seeing most of our friends from med school last weekend but we sure missed a couple of Amys. :) Michael and his med school buddies started an unofficial fraternity while they were in med school called MED (Mu Epsilon Delta) and to see the MED brothers back together again was quite a treat. :) Weddings are the perfect excuse to get back together and Ken and Sarah's could not have been more fun. Here are some pictures to recap:

Nana and Papa's visit

This past weekend Michael and I headed to Dallas for the wedding of one of his med school buddy's while Luke got to spend the weekend with Nana and Papa! Nana and Papa were so sweet to fly all the way up here to keep him but we didn't have to twist their arms too bad. :) I'm pretty sure Luke barely noticed we were gone with all the "treats" he got and the fun stuff they did. Nana also took care of some business while she was here and painted the nursery and our front door. Everything looks awesome and we couldn't thank her enough!
