After water finally being restored it felt like life was back to normal here in our humble abode, but not for long. We still have very severe damage to our ceiling in the kitchen and my closet, with mold beginning to sprout (does mold sprout?). After some very stern conversations with the management company we are moving out on Saturday! Some of the sternness came from me, of which I was quite proud. :)
For the time being we are moving our stuff to storage, since Michael has three months of away rotations left this Fall in San Antonio, Temple (most likely), and Oklahoma City. Luke and I will be going with him for the majority, and staying with my parents in between. We may feel like hobos by the end of this year, but I am trusting there is a reason everything feels so up in the air.

Poor Owls
We went to Austin for the weekend to escape the craziness that is still Houston, Texas right now. It was nice to be away and in a place where things feel normal. Thanks to the Eissler's we got to see the Owls play the Horns.
As we were walking in to the stadium Michael and Luke got some "hazing" for their Owl blue. Luke was disappointed in their performance (see below). Maybe when we let him root for the Horns he'll be in a little better mood.

Just cute

8 for 8
8 things about our little man on his 8 month mirthday: (it was yesterday)
1. He is happiest when standing. He can pull up on anything.
2. He says "Ma" when he's tired or hungry.
3. He still loves his thumb.
4. The worst part of his day is when we put his jammies on.
5. He LOVES to feed himself Cheerios or anything little like that, and drink apple juice with his sippy cup.
6. He's got two teeth on the bottom, and those stinkers are sharp!
7. He's just now figuring out he can really MOVE when crawling. He's fast!
8. His favorite toys are the TV remote, laptop computers, and books (not to read, but to bite).
I thought I would see if I could make it a habit to do this every now and again, documenting milestones, etc. I have decided this will be our kid's scrapbooks. I hope to blurb the blog every year.

Nasty Ike
Growing up in Houston, it is surprising to me that this is the first hurricane I have weathered. I hope it was my first and last though. Ike was nasty. We hunkered down at Michael's Mom and Dad's house for the weekend and boy am I glad we did. Robert was in route from London but couldn't get to Houston until today. Thanks Kellie for the hospitality. She really took care of us, helping with Luke, cooking on the gas stove (note to self, make sure we have a gas stove in the next place we live), boiling water to make coffee, etc.
I didn't sleep but a wink Friday night, listening to the wind and rain and wondering when the power was going to go out. It finally did around 5 am I think. The rest of the day we spent watching the water rise and recede on their street and then walking around the neighborhood to survey the damage. The Merrick's house faired well and just has a lot of debris in the yard, a few trees down and part of the fence missing. My family had a tree go through a window and did some structural damage to the house. You can look up in the entry way and see the sky, and they were stranded in the neighborhood for 24 hours due to flooding! They still have smiles on their faces today though.
The power is still out in all of the Woodlands, but both of our parents got generators today. The energy companies are saying it could be two to four weeks before the power's back on up there.
We came back to check on our apartment on Saturday night and found a bit of a mess. We have power being on the Med Center grid, but no water. The ceiling was leaking like a waterfall in our kitchen and my closet when we got back. 80% of my hanging clothes and shoes were soaked with nasty brown water and red stains, but Praise the Lord for renters insurance. I used to question whether we should spend the money on it, but boy am I a renters insurance advocate now. Put me on a commercial.
Thank you Lord we are all safe and still have roofs over our heads. Pray for those that have lost everything. I have been brought to tears too many times to count just seeing the devastation in our neck of the woods. I can't imagine seeing the coast right now. Just Pray.

Playgroup at the zoo
Lots of posts today. We went with our playgroup to the zoo today and had a grand ole time. Luke enjoyed playing with the other babies more than seeing all of the animals, but LOVED the carousel ride. 
He grabbed the goats ear and yanked it as soon as we got down close to it. I thought, this thing might not be quite as gentle as Riley, Abby, Gracie, and Oscar. :) (All of the Grandparent's dogs) .
